With ageing we can get excess skin on our lower eyelids and protruding eyelid bags. Smaller corrections can be easily done with hyaluronic acid fillers but sometimes surgical intervention is needed. Frequently the surgery can be combined with upper blepharoplasty.
Description
Surgery is performed under local anaesthesia but transconjunctival or larger procedures are done in general anaesthesia. It takes approximately 60 minutes and is a daytime surgery.
Lower blepharoplasty: the incision is made just below the lower eyelashes. After dissection, surgeon removes excess skin and fatty bags below the eyes. Tiny stiches and adhesive taping are applied to the bottom of the eye.
Transconjunctival blepharoplasty: usually it is done in general anaesthesia and the incision is made in the inner part of the eyelid. Stiches are tiny and resorb themselves, sometimes they are even not needed. We can successfully remove and transposition fat bag. It is an excellent option for correction of only lower eyelid bags or tear trough. There are no visible scars.
Postoperative recovery
- Day 1-3: Local hydrogel cooling applied and the patient should rest
- Week 1: Only normal physical activity, Steri-Strips and stiches are removed after 1 week
- Week 2: Decreased swelling and bruising
